Hard work pays off for the Bobcats!

Hard work pays off for the Bobcats!

Our men's and women's soccer teams are in finally into the heart of their seasons and thanks to their hard work on the field are starting to play at the highest level possible!

The men's team had home games on both Saturday and Sunday with both going into overtime! On Saturday, the undefeated Essex County Community College came to town for what was by far the most exciting game of the season so far! After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Bobcats came out with new found energy and with goals from both captains Jon Stublla and Connor McGoldrick. At the end of time, and after playing most of the second half down a man, the score was 2-2 so we went to overtime! After two overtimes and both teams going scoreless the match ended in a draw leaving both teams still, undefeated. After playing 130 minutes on Saturday the men were back at it on Sunday when the visiting Berkeley College (NY) came to town. This was a strangely familiar start to the match for Bobcats as they found themselves down 1-0 at halftime once again. The previous day's game had obviously taken a toll on the Bobcats in the form of injuries but they did not let that stop them. They came out to control almost the entire second half and with a goal from Mark Parchment, tied the game and forced overtime! Then five minutes into overtime the Bobcats secured a corner kick, and with the assist from Jon Stublla, Delano Hodge buried a header in the back of the net for the win. We caught up with Coach Nick after the exhausting weekend, here's what he had to say. "Every team has injuries. That's life, that's the season, that's the sport. But the way our guys continued to fight after being down a goal in two consecutive games shows a lot about them. These are the kind of situations that make us stronger as a team and will benefit us once we get to that championship tournament later in the season." The Bobcats will go on the road for their next game at Bunker Hill Community College this Saturday October 5th.

Our women's team hit the road to Maine where on Saturday they took on Central Maine Community College. Even though it was a long bus ride there, the Bobcats did not come out sluggish and scored in the first 5 minutes with a goal by Lyla Lionel. The scoring continued for the rest of the game as they cruised to a win by a score of 9-0. (other goals by Lisset Gomez, Asako Ideue, Tia Henry, Marie Seeger, Kindry Norales). Sunday, they were back on the field, this time at Southern Maine Community College. Once again the scoring did not take long for the Bobcats as Asako Ideue assisted Lyla Lionel for a goal less than a minute into the game. After playing the entire second half down a player the bobcats could secure the victory by a score of 3-1 (Other goals by Lyla Lionel and Brittany Edwards) and head home still undefeated. Coach Alex said, "These trips are always good for the team to get closer and become stronger as a group, it helps when though when you can come away with a couple victories as well. I'm quite happy with the way they played in one of their first true road experiences." The Bobcats will travel next to SUNY Canton on Thursday October 3rd.

Coach Juan Martinez lead the cross-country team out to the Mike Woods invitational out in Geneseo this weekend. Unfortunately, due to illness and injury only Sheyla Medina could compete. She once again improved her time and coach could not be more proud. He said "Sheyla just continues to improve and its exciting how much better she's getting. As a team, we just need to get healthy and I have no doubt we can compete at the highest level." The next meet for the Bobcats is Tuesday October 8th, the Delhi Bronco Classic.
